Administers and directs the building safety program for the City and County of Honolulu; oversees the activities of a major division responsible for administering and enforcing the Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Housing and Zoning Codes; the energy conservation ordinance; sidewalk, driveway, grading and other related ordinances and regulations; and performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering or architectural specialty.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Five years of registered professional engineering or architectural experience, including or supplemented by three years of administrative experience directing and overseeing the work of professional engineers or architects.
Such experience must have demonstrated the knowledge of principles and practices of civil/structural engineering and architecture; principles of electrical and mechanical engineering as they apply to building construction; laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the construction and occupancy of buildings and structures; principles and practices of organization, public administration and public relations; and the ability to plan, organize and direct the work of a large division engaged in engineering and inspectional activities; develop and formulate divisional policies and procedures; interpret and explain provisions of the building, electrical, plumbing, gas and other related codes and ordinances; direct the preparation of various technical reports and budget estimates; address architects, engineers and other organized groups; deal effectively with employees and the public.
License Requirement: Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer or architect.
