Project Manager – Traffic Engineering

(2 Year Contract)

Responsible for planning, managing and delivering of transportation and traffic engineering projects; manages and supervises the activities of project teams, which may include internal staff and external resources; Oversees, reviews, and/or performs the development of designs or traffic engineering plans for traffic engineering projects; Preparation of capital budgets and plans, liaising with internal and external stakeholders on corporate initiatives as well as managing citizen traffic inquiries.

  • University degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or suitable equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in all aspects of traffic engineering, transportation planning, road safety and traffic operations in Municipal Government and/or Private Consulting Engineering fields, including experience in project management, contract management, managing engineering assignments, and monitoring and evaluating new programs.
  • A Professional Engineer license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario or Certified Engineering Technologist designation.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), or demonstrated experience managing complex projects in accordance with Project Management principles.
  • GIS Professional certified through the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering computer software and techniques such as the Highway Capacity Manual, HTA, Ontario Traffic Manuals, Ontario Geometric Design Guidelines, Traffic Signal Capacity Programs, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant Federal/Provincial legislation and other government project and contract administration provisions/procedures pertaining to municipal engineering.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Federal Legislation in regard to inter-provincial transportation, railway crossing control and construction techniques and principles.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and coordinating staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Thorough working knowledge of transportation and traffic engineering theories and practices, especially in the municipal environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing improvements to transportation and traffic engineering projects, processes, technologies, data and skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation, municipal government organization and structure, industry standards, issues and the City.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, written and verbal communications, organization, time management, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a spectrum of stakeholders, and foster cooperative/collaborative working relationships and working effectively as a team leader.
  • A valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • The ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
