THE SANITATION DISTRICTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY invites applications for the position of:
2 or More Project Engineer Positions (Wastewater or Sewer Design)
The Sanitation Districts own and operate 11 wastewater treatment plants, and wastewater collection systems comprised of 48 pumping plants and over 1,400 miles of trunk sewers. The Wastewater Collection Systems Section has an annual operating budget of approximately $40 million and the Sewer Design Section has an annual capital budget typically exceeding $30 million. Current major projects include rehabilitation of major trunk sewers, upgrading collection system pump stations, and supporting construction of a $700 million tunnel project. The Wastewater Collections Systems Section and the Sewer Design Section are currently seeking Engineers who are motivated, energetic, innovative, team players, and have excellent communication skills and experience in either or both of the following two areas:
WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS PROJECT ENGINEER - COMPTON
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbents will plan, conduct and support engineering projects and programs relating to the operation and maintenance of the collection systems that may include sewer rehabilitation and repair, pumping plant improvements, sewer condition assessment, crown spray, flow monitoring, sulfide and odor control, and capital improvements; develop and recommend engineering solutions for the collection systems; interact and coordinate with contractors, regulatory agencies, city and county agencies, and the public. Incumbents will apply various asset management and reliability strategies to mitigate the risk of system failures including reliability-centered maintenance, condition based monitoring, development of inspection and training programs, review/update of operations & maintenance manuals, and root cause failure analysis. Duties include analysis of the efficiency and effectiveness of operations & maintenance practices; preparation and review of design calculations and contract drawings/specifications for projects; and development of recommendations for improvements related to operation, maintenance, reliability and life-cycle costs.
This position will be assigned to the Compton Field Office in Compton, CA.
SEWER DESIGN PROJECT ENGINEER - WHITTIER
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for designing and preparing sewer construction plans and specifications, including drainage area studies, alignment selection, hydraulic studies, engineering reports, pipe selection, sewer rehabilitation method selection, construction cost estimates, and bid documents; coordinating and obtaining permits from agencies, utilities, and private property owners; coordinating with and reviewing work of engineering consultants; and providing contract support during construction including reviewing submittals and assisting field staff in resolving construction problems.
This position will be assigned to the Joint Administration Office in Whittier, CA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver license -AND- Option A: A bachelor's degree and master's degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university; Option B: A bachelor's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training Certificate and a master's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering discipline; Option C: Two years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field and two or more years' experience in operational engineering support or design of wastewater treatment or sewer systems. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a California Engineer-in-Training Certificate or a California Professional Engineering License.
