Millstone Power Station is currently seeking a senior level Civil Engineer for the Site Rapid Response Design Engineering Group within the Nuclear Engineering organization at an operating nuclear power plant. This position will include design, evaluation, and repair of structures and supports. A working knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures is desirable for this position.
Additional duties and abilities will include:
1. Responsible for the building structures monitoring and health program IAW ACI 349.3R-2 and plant procedures.
2. Develop design change packages to provide for engineered plant improvements and solutions to operations and maintenance problems which ensure long-term equipment reliability. This position also requires engagement and intrusiveness with implementing personnel and operations throughout the installation phases.
3. Prepare Technical Reports based on inspections of company owned structures, systems, and components to document discoveries and engineering recommendations.
4. Prepare/amend/revise calculations in support of station engineering products.
5. Provide routine technical support for design-related issues in construction, maintenance, and operations which may include the development of engineering technical evaluations and solutions.
This role is the senior level position in the engineer series. Includes senior to technical expert engineers, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities
5 years engineering experience and Licensed professional engineer, knowledgeable in the design evaluation, and in-service inspection of concrete structures and performance requirements of structures (Nuclear preferred).
Civil or structural engineering graduate of an ABET-accredited college or university with at least 10 years’ experience in the design, construction, and inspection of concrete structures, and with knowledge of the performance requirements of structures and potential degradation processes (Nuclear preferred).
Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.
Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
Strong personal computer skills.
Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.
In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.)
