East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Associate Civil Engineer. There is currently one opening in the Water Resources Planning Division’s Water Resources Projects Section, part of EBMUD’s Water and Natural Resources Department. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the Associate Civil Engineer is the registered professional engineer level position on the EBMUD civil engineering career ladder.
The sections within the Water Resources Planning Division handle significant work to provide management and technical support to establish and maintain water rights, agreements, licenses, and policies related to EBMUD’s water supply. Staff conducts engineering studies and technical analyses, as well as provides liaison services to both state and federal water resources-related regulatory agencies and government bodies. The division has a critical role in ensuring that EBMUD’s water right entitlements are protected, administering and ensuring that EBMUD is in compliance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) requirements, ensuring EBMUD is meeting state and federal regulations governing the overall water management as well as providing technical assessment of the supply and demand through the authoring of the Urban Water Management Plan, providing technical modeling analyses of EBMUD’s water supply system, and providing relevant hydraulic and hydrologic support.
The ideal candidate will serve as a technical specialist in hydrology and hydraulics and have strong experience in performing hydrologic and hydraulic 1- and 2-D modeling and analysis under supervision or general direction toward the completion of water resources projects. The ideal candidate will also have experience in technical analysis of water supply, environmental documentation and processes; creating technical reports; project management; giving technical presentations, and working with other water agencies or state and federal water-resources related agencies. As appropriate to the assignment, the ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in: project planning and management; oral and written communication skills; experience with environmental documents and complex reports; and engineering analyses for a variety of projects including some that are fully implemented.
The salary range is $10,150 per month increasing to $10,657, $11,190, $11,750 and $12,338 after 6, 18, 30 and 42 months, respectively.

A typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is:
A bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited civil engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate;
Four years of professional civil engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree); AND
California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
