The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and is internationally recognized as among the world’s top 100 medical schools. The Academic Chair of the Department of Medical Genetics will demonstrate excellent leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and have the necessary experience to stimulate teaching and research programs spanning basic science and clinical areas as well as health outcomes. The Department is composed of fundamental researchers clinical geneticists, and laboratory geneticists. We have a vibrant graduate student program with active research in multiple areas related to medical genetics. The successful candidate will have administrative experience in an academic setting. The Chair must have a demonstrated ability to foster mentorship and career development opportunities for faculty members. Strong and well developed interpersonal communication skills are an asset. The appointment will be at the successful candidate’s existing faculty rank and a Chairs’ stipend will be provided. For candidates that currently hold a University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry tenure track or tenured position, they must have a PhD, MD/PhD or MD. For candidates external to the University of Alberta they must have a MD/PhD or MD to provide clinical care in a manner that meets the expectations of both the University and Alberta Health Services (AHS). The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment and a concurrent clinical appointment with AHS. The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Medical Genetics and Genomics or equivalent and must be eligible to work in Canada. Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
