Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer is to serve as a highly cross-functional, hands-on technical expert that is to drive operational results through lean and waste initiatives, troubleshooting work centers/ workstreams, and supporting the transition of concepts to commercialization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively work with Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and Project Engineering to identify and implement changes needed to introduce products to market efficiently.
Develop processing and quality specifications of new products through manufacturing trials to develop a product/process that is repeatable, exceeds manufacturing targets, and meets the expectation of the application.
Reduce cost to manufacture products through improved design, execution, and documentation of process improvements.
Lead troubleshooting efforts for all work centers within the value stream and develop processes to eliminate reoccurrence.
Work with the quality team to develop and complete corrective actions utilizing root cause analysis.
Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives to eliminate waste in value streams including activities such as kata projects and the Continuous Improvement Idea Program.
Ensure accuracy of new product requests and Bill of Materials while creating and maintaining system data in both the ERP and Item Specification database systems.
· Responsible for hazard assessments, FMEAs, and action plans to ensure safe work practices.
Complete a minimum of 15 continuous learning credits yearly, of which at least 1 of the credits are earned from internal knowledge sharing.
Spend at least 25% of time on the production floor collaborating with operators, supervisors and production assistants on daily production needs, including items such as plant trials, troubleshooting, waste initiatives, creating and maintaining SOP’s and continuous improvement of standard production.
Work with supply chain on non-conforming material issues, supplier corrective actions, raw material qualifications and supporting outsource partners.
Participate in the capital project process through identifying manufacturing needs, creating project justifications and budget, and executing on approved projects through transition to standard production.
Gain exposure in other technical areas including areas such as Product Development, Quality, New Manufacturing Technologies and Maintenance, through cross functional training
Work with internal commercial leads on being the technical resource for customer visits, factory applications, production feasibility, plant trials, and product development and proof-of-concepts.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Plastics or Chemical Engineering, with 3+ years of relevant technical work experience as a Process Engineer
Proven experience in delivering results while managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Maintains a safety mindset in operational approach and execution
Excellent analytical capabilities with proven experience in using data to anticipate an drive opportunities for improvement.
Must have project management with proven experience in managing technical projects.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external vendors and customers.
Must have a general understanding of ERP systems.
Experience with statistical analysis.
Excellent skills with M.S. office suite.
Experience working in an ISO-certified company is preferred.
Experience working in a union environment preferred.
Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
Must be able to work on premise Monday through Friday. Some travel may be required as it supports business needs.
