The Senior Product Engineer owns product design, improvements, and specifications, including safety in product design. The Senior Product Engineer executes product design and development within a global engineering setting. He/She is consulted by other engineers across Flowserve and disseminates engineering and product knowledge through training, tools and continuous improvement processes. The Senior Product Engineer assists Sales and Aftermarket teams globally with technical support for customer inquiries and complex field issues, including detailed root cause analyses. He/She is consulted by order engineering regarding production orders, as well as site production departments to resolve problems in manufacturing, quality, and assembly.
Maintain constant focus on safety, integrity and quality. Assume charge for assigned projects; ensure correct application of engineering principles; and arrange for productive use of resources.
Approach design and manufacturing limitations with creativity, ingenuity and/or latitude. Continue to expand individual engineering capability and product knowledge.
Understand code specifications, valve applications, and product design requirements.
Create and check engineering outputs against loads and stresses due to operation, appropriate materials of construction, and safety of assembly and operation.
Submit engineering outputs, including product design standards, calculations, and other analysis to appropriate Engineering personnel for review and approval.
Plan for the timely completion of assigned work. Clearly communicate and ensure alignment for planned activities and timelines with engineering and/or project management.
Enlist the cooperation of other individuals and departments as needed to complete projects, improvements, or other assignments with the consent of affected supervisors. Provide engineering counsel to management to influence direction and decisions.
Create and enhance engineering design tools and processes, including global product design manuals. Drive improvement projects to improve product quality.
Review detail drawings for accuracy and correct engineering. Review production bills of material and order specifications as required.
Support global product engineering initiatives. Support local departments when engineering considerations arise.
Support customer and field issues, including root cause analysis (RCA).
Provide engineering and technical assistance for sales quotation activity
Train engineering groups and other functions
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in an Engineering discipline from four-year college or university.
5+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
Possess a broad knowledge of mechanical engineering core principles, practices, and procedures.
Competent in computer-aided-design (CAD), with sound knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing practices (GD&T).
Communicate professionally and with accepted business etiquette; work well with people in other departments and with customers.
Able to analyze and interpret technical standards and documents, write effective engineering reports and manuals, and effectively present information to leaders and customers.
Apply advanced mathematical concepts and operations such as exponents/logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations, frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and similar competencies.
Working knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity and experience with ASME and ASTM standards, including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) and piping codes, preferred.
Familiarity with control valves and piping systems. Understanding of key industrial valve customers and markets, including power, water, oil & gas, chemical, and green energy, preferred.
Licensed professional engineer or on path to obtain a PE license, preferred.
Knowledge and skill in MS Office 365 – including SharePoint, Automation and Flows, preferred.
Experience with computational simulation software and analysis methods, such as FEA, CFD (eg Ansys, Solidworks Simulation), preferred.
Basic software coding skills in a basic language such as Python, VBA or similar, preferred.
